South Korea and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) are to jointly celebrate the 60th anniversary of Korea's independence from the Japanese colonial rule here in mid-August, reported South Korean Yonhap News Agency on Tuesday.
Some 20,000 South Korean people, including ranking government officials and politicians, and 200 DPRK people are scheduled to attend the joint celebration events slated for Aug. 14-17 in Seoul, said Yonhap.
In the latest round of inter-Korean ministerial level talks, the DPRK agreed to send a high-level delegation to attend the joint celebration in Seoul.
But, it was not known who will lead the DPRK team up to now.
In the Liberation Day or Aug. 15, a main event will be held at a plaza in central Seoul.
A host of supplementary events are to take place, including a two-hour festival in front of Namdaemun (the South Gate) in Seoul on the night of Liberation Day, said Yonhap.
Moreover, South Korean and the DPRK men and women football teams are to have friendly matches during the celebration.
