Kai-Fu Lee: Google's China strategy not set
font size

Google's business model in China has not been set, said Dr. Kai-Fu Lee in Beijing in his capacity as Google China president for the first time on July 25.

Lee will soon return to the headquarters of Google to familiarize himself with Google's culture, then prepare for his family's move to China.

Lee said in an interview that Google has two tasks in China: to employ the most talented professionals and to satisfy most Chinese users with its products. Apart from these, Google has not assigned him any quantitative objectives.

Sources say, as Google quickens its pace in localization in China, what sales strategy it will adopt has become the focus in the industry.

Recently there even has been rumor that Google will adopt an agent system, and it has picked HotSales and CE.NET.CN. The Google China president denied all these.

Lee said Google has not set its strategy for China. Google's business models in the United States include direct sales, agent and online. Lee said what he needs to do now is to return to the headquarters and spend two to three months in getting familiar with Google's culture. After that he will move to China with his family and take office.

As for his resignation, Lee said he believes his move is in accordance with moral norms and law. He holds one should persist in seeking his choice and his enthusiasm. Of course, one should not violate law or act with no creditability. Lee believes that his approach agrees with such principles.
