The Egyptian envoy to Pakistan here Tuesday said no Pakistani national was involved in the weekend bomb blasts in Sharm-el-Sheikh which killed over 60 people.
"I would like to underline the fact that the Egyptian government yesterday (Monday) had not accused any Pakistanis and not issued any statement dealing with suspicion of (their) involvement with the blasts," Egyptian ambassador Hussein Haridy told the Associated Press of Pakistan.
He made these remarks while commenting on various media reports that claimed Egyptian police were looking for some Pakistanis for their suspected involvement in the blasts.
"What we were dealing yesterday (Monday) was media reports," Ambassador Haridy said, adding that his government was concerned that these reports might "damage" relations between the two countries.
He said the Pakistan-Egypt relations today were on stronger footing and "We will continue to cooperate with Pakistan and other countries in the fight on terror."
The ambassador praised Pakistan for playing a leading role in the ongoing war on international terrorism. "Pakistan has paid a heavy price. We support Pakistan and wish the country success in the fight against terrorism," he noted.
A statement issued by the Egyptian Embassy in Islamabad said Tuesday that Ambassador Haridy informed the Pakistani government late Monday night that no Pakistani national was involved in the terrorist acts that rocked Sharm-el-Sheikh, Egypt's Red Sea resort.
He added that at no time did the Egyptian government accuse Pakistanis of involvement in these attacks, the statement said.
