Sharon says to implement "roadmap" peace plan after Gaza withdrawal
font size

Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon affirmed Wednesday that the "roadmap" peace plan would be implemented after the Israeli pullout from Gaza, scheduled for mid- August.

"After the implementation of the Gaza disengagement plan, if the Palestinians do what they have to do, we will implement the ' roadmap'," Sharon told reporters after meeting with French President Jacques Chirac in Paris.

"We are at the stage of 'pre-roadmap'," he said, noting that in order to implement the roadmap peace plan, a total end of terrorism and violence is necessary.

"I will make no concession, neither today, nor tomorrow in the field of terrorism," he noted.

The "roadmap" for peace is a plan to resolve the Israeli- Palestinian conflict proposed by the international quartet, including the United States, the European Union, Russia and the United Nations.

The principles of the plan were first outlined by US President George W. Bush in a speech on June 24, 2002, in which he called for an independent Palestinian State living in peace with Israel.
