Contamination of drinking-water source the top environment concern

The large-scale questionnaire survey aiming at widely collecting public opinions and suggestions, an objective of national Eleventh Five-Year environment protection programme concluded recently. The result released by China Environment Protection League on July 27 shows that a total of 4,120,517 people have participated in the survey.

According to the survey, the top environment issue that arouses great public attention is contamination of drinking-water source, especially the contamination of water sources in some middle-and-small-sized cities and rural areas (21 %). Then come air pollution (18 %), life garbage pollution (12 %), industrial wastes disposal (8.8 %), vegetation damage and desertification (7.6 %), water shortage (7.4 %), noise pollution (7.3 %) as well as vehicle tail gas pollution (6.5 %).
