Palestinian Legislative Council announced on Thursday that it would hold an international conference grouping representatives from parliaments across the world in November over Jerusalem.

Deputy Speaker of the legislative council Hassan Khreishe told the "Voice of Palestine" radio that the conference was aimed at gathering international support to put a limit to the Israeli attempts to judaize Jerusalem.

"The council decided during a Wednesday session to hold the conference to discuss the Israeli ongoing violence on Jerusalem and the expansion of Jewish dwellers in East Jerusalem," he said.

"We want to reveal to the whole world that Jerusalem is threatened by the Israeli judaizing operations," he added.

The senior legislator also said the parliament had set up a special committee to prepare for the conference, which was expected to gather representatives from Arab and other parliaments all over the world.

The status of Jerusalem, a city sacred to Muslims, Jews and Christians, has remained disputed.

Israel seized the Arab East Jerusalem in the 1967 Mideast War and later annexed it in a move not recognized by the international community.

The Palestinians, meanwhile, want the East Jerusalem as capital of their future state. There are about 240,000 Palestinians now living in East Jerusalem.

Israel is due to complete the construction of a barrier in Jerusalem by Sept. 1. The fence will eventually separate 55,000 Palestinian residents of Jerusalem from the rest of the holy city. Palestinians see the barrier as a land grab.

In addition, Jerusalem's municipality gave preliminary approval on Tuesday for the building of 21 homes for Jews in an Arab quarter of Jerusalem, drawing fierce condemnation from the Palestinians.
