Kenyan athlete James Kwambai Sunday won the Bogota International Half-Marathon in one hour three minutes and 10seconds, establishing a new record for the competition.
The 21-kilometer race, one of the most important behind those of San Silvestre, Brazil, and New York, United States, took place in the 467th anniversary of Bogota.
The second and third places went to Paul Kirui (46 seconds behind) and Isaac Macharia (one minute and three seconds behind), also from Kenya. Then came Colombian Arilio Carrasco, one minute and 29 seconds behind the champion.
The women's category was won by Mexican Adriana Fernandez who stopped the chronometer at one hour 15 minutes and two seconds, followed by Canadian Lioudmila Kortchagina, one minute and 10 seconds behind. The third and fourth positions went to Peruvian Julia Rivera (two minutes and 57 seconds behind) and Bolivian Sonia Calizaya (five minutes and 34 seconds) respectively.
The race attracted 41,000 athletes.
