Former Palestinian prisoners seize municipality building in Rafah for jobs
font size

Dozens of former Palestinian prisoners who had spent more than five years in Israeli jails seized on Tuesday the building of Rafah town municipality for jobs and better living conditions, witnesses and security sources reported.

The witnesses said that the former prisoners carried out the action on Tuesday morning to send a message to the Palestinian National Authority (PNA) that they seek jobs and have better living conditions.

The security sources said that dozens of police officers surrounded the building and urged the former prisoners to leave the building and hold peaceful talks with the Palestinian political leadership to get their rights.

Afterwards, the former prisoners and the Palestinian security officials started negotiations, while leaders of the ruling Fatah movement in the town had interfered to end the crisis peacefully, according to the sources.

In Rafah town in southern Gaza Strip as well as in Khan Younis, it became a phenomenon that militants or activists who look for better living opportunities seize PNA civil institutions.
