Sudan forms committee to probe into Garang's death
font size

Sudanese President Omar el-Bashir on Wednesday issued a decree forming a joint committee to probe into the death of First Vice President and south leader John Garang in an air crash.

The committee was formed in cooperation with members of the Sudan People's Liberation Movement (SPLM) to investigate circumstances behind the tragedy.

The president also decided to form another committee to know casualties and loss of state and individual properties during a two-day disorder in Sudan.

He called on the people to stay cautious and alert, urging media to be responsible in news coverage.

Riots broke out in the streets of Khartoum after Garang was confirmed dead in a helicopter crash on his way back from Uganda to southern Sudan Saturday night.

Sudanese police announced that 46 people were killed and 306 others wounded in the riots.
