Three US soldiers were killed Wednesday in a car bomb attack targeted a US military vehicle in southwestern Baghdad, the US military said Friday.

The attack took place at about 8:00 p.m. (1600 GMT) Wednesday, the military said in a statement.

The names of the killed soldiers were being withheld pending notification of next of kin, it added.

Earlier, the US military said another marine was killed by small arms fire in the volatile city of Ramadi, some 110 km west of Baghdad.

Fourteen US marines and an interpreter were killed in a roadside bomb attack in western Iraq on Wednesday, the US military said.

The marines, assigned to Regimental Combat Team 2, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, were killed when an improvised explosive device hit their armored vehicle near the town of Haditha, some 250 km northwest of Baghdad, the military said.

About 1,815 US soldiers have been killed in Iraq since the US- led invasion in March 2003, according to media tally.
