Mourinho pleased by Chelsea's win over Arsenal

Manager Jose Mourinho was delighted by Chelsea's 2-1 victory in the Community Shield over Arsenal thanks to a Didier Drogba double at the Millennium Stadium.

"Didier was fantastic and the team fought well and played well," said Mourinho.

"I'm happy with the spirit and the quality of our game - we are going in the right direction again."

Drogba showed immense strength in opening the scoring after just eight minutes and added a second after the break to give Chelsea a 2-0 advantage.

"Didier was great the way he scored the goals," Mourinho added.

"The first goal changed the game and it was more difficult for them and if the quality of our last pass and the penetration pass was better, we would have scored more goals.

"It was a good game, especially for this moment, and the quality of the game will make everyone think we can have a good Premiership."

Blues skipper John Terry added: "It's a perfect start and psychologically we've got one up on them. We played good football and looked sharp."

Frank Lampard felt the match was perfect preparation for the new campaign after a pre-season that included the match against AC Milan on their tour of the USA.

"Arsenal are a fantastic team and it was a massive test for us and this had a little extra edge to it," the midfielder said.

"It was almost at 100% and it was a good test for each other.

"They had some good possession in the first-half but there was a belief we were going to win the game.

"Credit to them, they came back but we beat them and hopefully we can do it again in the league. We're confident we can win it but there's a long way to go."

However, Drogba believed there is work to be done, and with just a week to go to the opening game of their Premeirship defence at Wigan, time is running out.

"It's good for confidence but we didn't play very well," the striker said.

"We lost a lot of balls in the middle and we know we have to improve and we have to do it quickly."

And the Ivorian will be working hard on an individual level as well after Hernan Crespo was recalled from his loan spell at AC Milan to increase the competition up front.

"Last year I was also under pressure and it's a good pressure. I'm in a big team and I'll work and do what I have to do on the pitch," Drogba added.
