Islamic Jihad (holy war)'s senior leader Nafez Azzam said on Monday that his movement would have a role in the Palestinian political arena after the Israeli withdrawal from the Gaza Strip.

Azzam told reporters that the Islamic Jihad is focusing on the issue of implementing the Israeli pullout and the Palestinian preparations for the period following the Israeli withdrawal.

He pointed out that "the movement would have a basic role in the Palestinian political arena after Israeli withdrawal."

Azzam stressed the importance of the Palestinian solidarity, vowing "to thwart the wagers that wish to see an internal Palestinian conflict."

He regarded the imminent Israeli withdrawal as a result of Palestinian armed resistance to the occupation.
