China publishes its annual press development report for the first timeThe General Administration of Press and Publication of China released China's first press industrial research report entitled "China National Press Industrial Development Report for Year 2005" at the opening of "The Second Annual Conference on China Press Competitiveness" held recently. The report said that on average, China printed 100 million copies of various kinds of daily newspaper every day in 2004, ranking the first in the world, and there were 75.86 copies per 1,000 people in China, an increase of 6 per cent if compared with that of 2003. The number of daily newspaper China published in 2004 made up 14.5 per cent of the total in the world. The report shows that it was more popular for Chinese newspaper, however, the increase was not in a big margin, a growth of 0.26 copies for each household on average in 2004. The report also indicates that by the end of July this year, there were 1,926 kinds of newspaper in the country, including 218 at the central level, 806 at provincial level, 848 at prefecture level and 54 at county level. With 100 kinds of newspaper publications, Guangdong was the top among the provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities nationwide while Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region only published 15 kinds, the least among them.
