Zambian president swears in new cabinet members

Zambian President Levy Mwanawasa on Monday swore in two ministers and two deputy ministers that were appointed into his cabinet last Wednesday.

Among the sworn-in are Information and Broadcasting Services Minister Veron Mwanga, former national secretary of the ruling Movement for Multiparty Democracy, and George Chulumanda, the minister of sports, youth and child development.

Others are deputy agriculture minister Alexis Luhila and Peter Daka, deputy minister for science, technology and vocational training.

President Mwanawasa also swore in Christina Lambart as permanent secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Sebastian Kopulande a his assistant for special duties.

Mwanawasa announced a reshuffle of his cabinet last Wednesday, dropping Mines and Mineral Development Minister Kaunda Lembalemba and Tourism, Environment and Natural Resources Minister Patrick Kalifungwa.

He urged the new ministers and officials to work hard and efficiently to serve the nation.
