Mexican President Vicente Fox said Monday that China's Xinhua news agency's news reporting on Mexico helps promote understanding between the peoples of Mexico and China.

During a meeting with Xinhua President Tian Congming, Fox said the establishment of a Xinhua regional bureau in Mexico City 20 years ago embodied the friendly relations between the two countries and Xinhua's Spanish-language service has played an important role in promoting the understanding between the Mexicans and Chinese.

Tian said Mexico, a major country in Latin America, has been playing an important role in regional and international affairs.

Xinhua will strengthen cooperation with Mexican media organizations, said Tian, who arrived in Mexico City on Sunday at the invitation of the the Mexican news agency Informex.
