A hundred US veterans who had fought in China during WWII arrived in Beijing on the morning of Aug 11. The veterans, along with 27 veterans who will be arriving today, will celebrate in Beijing the 60th anniversary of victory of the Chinese People's War of Resistance against Japan and the World Anti-Fascist War.
The veterans of Flying Tigers and their families came to China to participate in the V60 celebrations. V60 is abbreviation for "commemoration of the 60th anniversary of victory of the Chinese People's War of Resistance against Japan and the World Anti-Fascist War". The activity costs about $ 2, 000 per person, which will be paid by the veterans and their families.
The grand gathering of the Flying Tigers veterans is sponsored by the Yunnan Provincial Government. According to Li Baoyu, head of the Ocean International Travel Agency that is responsible for the veterans' stay in China, a total of 127 US veterans, 33 belonging to the American Volunteer Group, 71 from the 14th Air Force, and 23 who had fought in southeast Asia and other regions will take part in the celebration. All of them are above 80, and the oldest veteran is 89.
