Hong Kong held a ceremony on August 14 for commemorating the 60 anniversary of China's victory in the war of resistance against the Japanese aggression around the Peace Monument in the Central District.

Rafael Hui, chief secretary for administration, Ambrose Lee and representatives from foreign consulate generals presented flowers to the monument and stood in silent tribute to the solders who devoted their lives in the war of resistance against the Japanese aggression.

Some veteran army men said though the war has ended for 60 years, Japan has not drawn lessons from the history and Japan should apologize and compensate for the world victims.

Japan occupied Hong Kong for three years and eight months during the war and the Hong Kong people fought bravely against the Japanese troops and contributed their shares to China's victory in the war of resistance against the Japanese aggression.

About 200 representatives from other walks of life in Hong Kong also attended Sunday's ceremony.
