According to Physical Review Letters, Australian scientists succeeded in "freezing" light in its tracks for one second with a new optical trapping technique.

Physicist Jevon Longdell with Australian National University and his colleagues stopped for the first time a light impulse for a whole second, 1,000 times that of the previous record.

The period of time of stopping light has greatly extended, which means a practical approach may be found based on this to develop the storage for optical computer or quantum computer.
