South Korea dominates Universiade archery

South Korean archery specialists stamped their dominance in the sport after snatching three golds and one silver out of the four titles offered at the 23rd Universiade in Izmir on Monday.

Kim Mun Joung, Lee Sung Jin and Yun Mi Jun teamed up to collect the women's recurve team title, while their compatriot sisters Choi Mi Yeon, Kim Hyo Sun and Lee A Young clinched the women's compound team gold.

Ukraine took the silver of the women's recurve team final, and the bronze went to Poland, while Russian won the silver of the women's compound team, and Turkey got the bronze.

South Korea has made a clean sweep of all the women's archery titles since the 1984 Olympic Games and all the women's team titles since 1988.

However, at Izmir, South Korean men dashed out the whole team's dream of sweeping the four golds of the day after Ukraine took the men's recurve team title. South Koran finished second, ahead of Russia.

Choi Young Hee, Jeong Eui Soo and Sin Hyun Gyu, did not give chances to any other country in the following event, and took the men's compound team title after beating the United States 23-21 in the final.

United States took the silver, and the bronze went to Mexico.

South Korea's dominance in the sport has been attributed to their special training system and a long tradition in the sport.
