African Union Commission chairperson leaves Beijing for Xi'an

Chairperson of the Commission of the African Union Alpha Oumar Konare left Beijing for Xi'an to continue his China visit on Tuesday noon.

Konare arrived in Beijing on Sunday for a five-day official visit at the invitation of the Chinese government.

During his stay in Beijing, Konare met with Chinese President Hu Jintao and State Councilor Tang Jiaxuan. Konare and the Chinese leaders expressed both sides' willingness to enhance cooperation and friendship through a China-Africa cooperation forum and to promote a new partnership.

Xi'an, capital of northwest China's Shaanxi Province, is the second leg of Konare's visit to China. Later this week, he will also fly to Shanghai, the country's largest city and economic hub.
