Taliban militants would release the Lebanese hostage on Thursday after their demands were met, an informed source said.
Since the Turkish company, which the hostage works for, promised to withdraw from Afghanistan, Taliban is to set free the hostage, the source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.
Ahmad Reza, the Lebanese engineer who was working for the Turkish road construction company, was kidnapped by Taliban militants together with his four Afghan colleagues in Qalat, capital of Zabul province, Sunday night.
The four Afghan workers were released earlier this week.
Taliban spokesperson Latif Hakimi confirmed that they would release Ahmad Reza at around 9 a.m. this morning, but refused to give the name of Reza's company.
Taliban had threaten to kill the hostage and set Wednesday as the deadline, but they postponed it.
On Wednesday, speaking to Al-Jazeera TV channel, Reza's mother asked Taliban to release her son safely.
