Joint scientific expedition at Lake Baikal going on

A Chinese scientist casts a fishing net into the Bolshaia Kotinka River, a branch of Lake Baikal, Russia, on August 17, 2005. Scientists both from China and Russia kicked off the scientific expedition on Lake Baikal, the world's deepest and largest freshwater lake, on August 13. It is believed to be the largest ever joint scientific expedition between China and Russia. A total of 43 scientists and journalists from both sides take part in.
