Chinese State Councilor Tang Jiaxuan Friday called for further cooperation with Bangladesh in international affairs.

During a meeting with Bangladeshi Minister of Foreign Affairs Morshed Khan, Tang said China and Bangladesh are both developing countries and the two countries share similar stances on regional and international issues.

He said China appreciates Bangladesh's long-term adherence to neutral and non-alliance foreign policy and its active role in handling UN affairs and promoting south Asian cooperation.

He urged the two countries to improve consultation and communication in regional and international affairs to jointly safeguard the common interests of developing countries.

Morshed Khan said Bangladesh values traditional friendship between the two countries and views China as an important partner.

He said Bangladesh is ready to deepen cooperation with China in all fields and improve consultation with China in international affairs.

Morshed Khan is in accompanying Bangladeshi Prime Minister Khaleda Zia in China for a five-day official visit.
