A former Pakistani army man accused of masterminding attack on President General Pervez Musharraf was hanged early Saturday in a prison, jail sources said.
Abdul Salam Siddiqi was sent to gallows in the central jail of Multan, a major town in Punjab in the early morning.
Senior army officers were present on the occasion of execution.
His father Karim Bakhsh and other relatives went to Multan to collect the body.
Abdul Salam was one of the accused of conspiring attack on President Musharraf on Dec. 14, 2003, in Rawalpindi on a bridge near the army headquarters.
Musharraf escaped unhurt in the attack when his car was passing on the bridge. He also survived a suicide attack on Dec. 25, 2003, but 17 people, mostly, police and civilians were killed in the second attack.
Jail sources said on condition of anonymity that Abdul Salam was sentenced to death by a military court.
His mercy petition was rejected by President Musharraf, who is also Chief of Army Staff.
It is not clear as to how many people have been arrested and sentenced in Musharraf's attack cases.
