Mozambican authorities are planning to strengthen control of foreigners in the southern African country, according to local media reports on Sunday.
A complex ministerial commission, consisting of the ministries of Justice, Tourism, Labor, and Industry and Trade, is to hold its first meeting between August 22 and 27, to analyze and take decisions on this matter.
A document, which was produced during a meeting of the Mozambique's National Immigration Council that ended in Maputo this week, calls for the adoption of the practice of confirming of residence address before the issuing of a DIRE ( the Foreigners Residence Identification Documents), and a revision of all forms and stamps used in those services.
Mozambican immigration authorities are also suggesting an increase of the fees for the issuing of the DIRE and of others documents. But no further details were given to justify these suggestions.
Local media says that the reflection on these decisions is believed to be alarming.
