Tokyo marks centennial for Tongmenghui
font size

Initiated by overseas Chinese organizations in Japan, more than 100 overseas Chinese and Japanese attended in Tokyo a commemoration for the 100th anniversary of the founding of Tongmenghui (also known as the United League)

Advocated by Dr. Sun Yat-sen, Tongmenghui, China's first national bourgeois revolutionary political party, was founded on August 20, 1905, combining Xingzhonghui (or Revive China Society), Huaxinghui (or Society for the Revival of China) and Guangfuhui (or Revive the Light Society). The society's political guiding principle was "to overthrow the Manchu barbarians, to restore China to the Chinese, to establish a republic, and to distribute land equally."
