Iraqi policeman killed, two wounded in bomb attack in Baghdad

An Iraqi policeman was killed and two others wounded when a roadside bomb struck their patrol in southern Baghdad on Friday, police said.

"A roadside bomb detonated at about 12:30 p.m. (0830 GMT) as a police patrol was passing by on the highway in Doura district (in southern Baghdad)," an Interior Ministry source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.

Insurgents frequently attacked Iraqi police and security forces in an attempt to cripple the Shiite-dominated government formed in late April.

On Thursday, gunmen ambushed the convoy of Iraqi president Jalal Talabani who was not in any of the cars in northern Iraq, while the convoy was travelling to Baghdad, a police said.

"A group of armed men blew up a roadside bomb before opening small arms fire south of Tuz Khurmato," killing two of his bodyguards and wounding three others, a source from the Salahudin provincial police told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.
