Palestinian security sources reported on Monday that the Israeli army finished demolishing two settlements near the northern West Bank city of Jenin.
The sources said that the two settlements -- Kadeem and Ganeem - - are among the four West Bank settlements evacuated under Israel's disengagement plan to pull out from the Gaza Strip and northern West Bank.
The Israeli army started demolishing the empty settlers homes in the other two settlements Sanour and Homesh south of Jenin, said the sources.
The Israeli army liaison office informed the Palestinian side that the four evacuated settlements would stay under the Israeli army control, which means C areas and not A areas that are under the Palestinian control.
Qadoura Mousa, Jenin mayor, told reporters that the Israeli decision not to hand the four areas to Palestinian security control contradicts its obligations.
Mousa added that the Palestinian National Authority is prepared to deploy 700 Palestinian soldiers in the four settlements after Israeli withdrawal.
Israel completed eviction of about 9,000 settlers from all 21 settlements in Gaza and four in the northern West Bank last Tuesday, the first withdrawal from the Palestinian territories occupied since the 1967 Middle East war.
