One US soldier aboard a helicopter was killed and another injured in a forced landing Monday night when the chopper came under attack in northern Iraq, according to the US military.

The helicopter came down in Tal Afar, more than 400 km northwest of Baghdad, the military said.

The US military reinforced its force around Tal Afar last spring in a bid to gain full control to the city, where anti-US insurgency was frequently reported.
