Li Furong re-elected as ATTU president

Former senior sports official of China Li Furong has been reelected as the president ofthe Asian Table Tennis Federation here on Wednesday.

Li was the sole candidate for the presidency.

The 63-year-old Li, who is heading for his third spell as the ATTU president, first took the helm of the Asian governing body of table tennis in 2001 during the Osaka Asian championships.

Born in Shanghai, the native of Zhejiang province started to play table tennis at 15 and joined the Chinese national team in 1959. He was a four-time men's team world titles winner before retiring from table tennis and taking charge of the Chinese team in 1974 to lead China for another four men's team world champions.

Under his reign, the ATTU has performed a lot of world and continental table tennis competitions in stretch of its range including the 48th World Championships in Shanghai last May, where China swept as many five gold medals.
