China initiates TD-SCDMA network planning and 3G application

The special industrialization test just finished shows that the 3G Chinese standard TD-SCDMA is now ready for large-scale commercial purpose. Currently, the research on TD-SCDMA network planning and 3G application is well underway, which is supposed to be conducive to the possible application of TD-SCDMA.

The 22-member TD-SCDMA industrial alliance and mobile multimedia technique alliance, both attached to Ministry of Information Technology (MIT), announced strategic partnership on August 30, unfolding research of 3G business. The two alliances noted that their strategic cooperation aims at creating a platform for mutual communication so as to meet the demands from suppliers, content providers as well as technique and programme designers. It is reported that mobile multimedia alliance selected 9 applications that could possibly become popular in the near future among 25 candidates, including digital copyright protection, mobile stream media, mobile phone TV, mobile immediate communication, and remote monitoring and control, etc, on which the two alliances are expected to conduct cooperation and research.

Which operators will adopt the TD-SCDMA has become a common concern at the moment when China is about to issue 3G license. As for TD-SCDMA itself, the winning of acceptancel from operators need both the mature network connection technique and 3G application.

Zhang Qi, a senior official in charge of electronic productions with MIT is satisfied with the process of TD-SCDMA industrialization. Zhang noted that it only takes China a few years before TD-SCDMA technique can form a complete industrial chain, put out commercial products and be capable of forming network under the disadvantageous condition that 3G standard was put forward by Europe and the US first. China boasts the world's largest mobile phone users, the standard China adopts will likely become the mainstream standard worldwide, added Zhang.
