Chinese President Hu Jintao on Saturday called for establishing a new concept of security featuring mutual trust, mutual benefit, equality and cooperation.
"We must persist in settling international disputes by peaceful means, with a view to promoting harmonious coexistence for different countries," Hu said in his speech at the grand gathering in commemoration of the 60th anniversary of the Chinese people's victory in the war of resistance against Japanese aggression and the victory of the world anti-fascist war.
"We must push for international configuration of multi-polarity and democracy in international relations," said Hu, adding that all countries are equal members of the international community and should respect and support each other.
"We must work hard to promote the common development among all countries and the universal prosperity of the world at large," said Hu.
"In particular, we must support and promote quicker development of the vast number of developing countries, reduce and eliminate poverty, and narrow the gap between the North and the South, so that we can share in the achievements of economic globalization and advancement of science and technology," he said.
