Encephalitis kills 286 in Nepal

The number of people, mostly children, who died of Japanese encephalitis in the districts of Terai Belt of Nepal has reached 286 so far, Radio Nepal reported Sunday.

Among those dead, 57 died in course of treatment, the report said.

Some 12 persons died of the disease in the last six days which 43 new patients were admitted in hospitals for treatment.

Among the encephalitis patients who died while undergoing treatment, 37 died in Seti Zonal Hospital, and 20 in Tikapur Hospital, according to hospital sources.
