British PM Blair arriving in New Delhi

British Prime Minister Tony Blair is arriving in New Delhi Tuesday evening.

Blair will be accompanied by his wife Cherie Booth and a delegation comprising Alan Johnson, Secretary of State for Trade and Industry and Dr. Ian Pearson, Minister of State for Trade responsible for Trade Policy and Foreign Affairs, besides senior officials.

During his three day visit to India, the British Premier will preside over the sixth Indo-EU Summit on Sept. 7 in New Delhi in his capacity as EU president. At the Summit, Blair and Indian Prime Minister will sign the Joint Action Plan, which provides for intensified political dialogue and cooperation, with a view to meeting common threats and global challenges, starting with terrorism.

The two prime ministers, Blair And Singh, along with President of the European Commission Barroso, will also attend the Sixth India-EU Business Summit on the same day.

Being organized by Confederation of Indian Industry, Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry in coordination with their European and British counterparts at a Special Plenary Session, the business summit intends to give greater thrust and focus to the economic, trade and investment aspects of the EU- India partnership.The sixth India-EU summit will be followed by the India-UK Summit on Sept. 8 at Simla, a picturesque hill station and the capital of Himachal Pradesh in northern India.
