font size

In Islamabad Asian Development Bank President Haruhiko Kuroda Tuesday appreciated the economic performance of Pakistan and assured the bank's full support for the sustainable growth of the country.

Addressing a news conference at the conclusion of his two-day visit in Islamabad, Haruhiko said the bank was satisfied with the performance of Pakistan's economy during the last five years and hoped this trend would continue.

"The bank would continue its support to Pakistan for further strengthening of its economy," he said.

Haruhiko said he held wide-ranging, productive and very useful meetings with the Pakistani leaders and discussed overall prospects of Pakistan's economy.

He disclosed that the bank would provide Pakistan about 3.7 billion US dollars for the improvement of infrastructure, governance, urban and rural development and poverty alleviation program during the next three years.

He, however, expressed concern over poverty in Pakistan but appreciated steps being taken for poverty alleviation.

He hoped that Pakistan would be able to eradicate poverty and improve living standards of the people in the coming years.
