Abbas vows to bring murderers of ex-security chief to justice

Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas seriously condemned on Wednesday the assassination of his military advisor General Musa Arafat earlier in the day at his home in Gaza City.

Abbas said in a written statement sent to reporters that he promises to find the militants who were responsible for the assassination and to bring them to justice for punishment.

Abbas said that the Palestinian security apparatuses and the Interior Ministry would spend all efforts for the release of Manhal Arafat, son of General Arafat, who was abducted by the militants during the incident.

Abbas vowed to end the investigation in the assassination issue as soon as possible, saying the murder would not prevent the restoration of law and order in Gaza Strip.

Unknown masked militants assassinated on Wednesday predawn General Mousa Arafat, 61, a retired high-ranking security official, after storming his home in Gaza City. They escaped from the area after kidnapping General Arafat's son and wounding a number of his guards.
