Polish president Aleksander Kwasniewski said Thursday that Poland will continue to support Ukraine's bid to join the European Union (EU).
At a press conference, Kwasniewski said Poland would keep a close watch on the changes in situation in Ukraine, where Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko sacked his government earlier Thursday amid infighting among top government officials.
The Polish president said that the changes in the Ukranian government should not be neglected, but should not be a cause for overreaction, either. The cabinet sacking will not change Polish and EU policies towards Ukraine.
He said that Ukraine is a very important strategic partner of Poland and bilateral relations between the two have become a good example in Europe.
He added that Ukraine can, at present and in the future, depend on Poland's support of the country's bid to join the EU.
