Philippine president Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo Friday appealed to civil servants, including the military and police, to help her be a good chief executive amid threats from the opposition to recruit government workers into joining protest rallies against her.
"Help me be a good and just president. Let us offer our people a fresh start by giving them the best services possible -- marked by professionalism, courtesy and integrity," Arroyo said.
The president thanked the public officials and workers for keeping the government functioning despite the political crisis her administration had been facing.
Arroyo said it was time for the Filipino servants to take center stage in bridging the gap between the government and the people by being the best civil servants they could become.
On Friday the opposition said that they gave up asking the Supreme Court's intervention into the impeachment failure, but will take the issue on streets.
Press secretary Ignacio Bunye said the Arroyo administration was not threatened by the moves of the opposition to bring her down after losing in the impeachment process after the complaints against her was finally junked by the house of representatives.
