Top Chinese legislator Wu Bangguo on Thursday called for the establishment of regular communication mechanisms between the parliaments of China and Brazil.
"Strengthening Sino-Brazilian relations benefits not only the two countries and the two peoples, but also regional and global peace and development," Wu said during his meeting here with Brazilian Chamber of Deputies President Severino Cavalcanti.
Wu, chairman of the Standing Committee of China's National People's Congress (NPC), met Cavalcanti on the sidelines of the Second World Conference of Speakers of Parliaments.
The three-day event, which gathered more than 150 parliament leaders from around the world, will end Friday.
"The Sino-Brazilian strategic partnership has in recent years undergone an all-around development, seeing fruitful cooperation in all areas," Wu said.
He said the NPC hopes to establish a mechanism for regular communication with the Brazilian parliament so that both sides can frequently exchange ideas on bilateral ties and other issues of mutual concern, promote mutual understanding, broaden their consensus and enrich the contents of bilateral ties.
Cavalcanti, for his part, said Brazil attaches great importance to developing ties with China, an important friend of Brazil.
Brazil stands ready to strengthen communication and cooperation with the Chinese side at every level and in all fields, and to learn from each other's strengths and draw on each other's experiences, said Cavalcanti.
He expressed full agreement with Wu's idea on making communication between the two parliaments more regular and institutionalized.
Both sides decided to step up consultation in the regard and work to set in motion the mechanisms as soon as possible.
