Egypt's Mubarak talks with UN envoy on regional issues
font size

Egypt's President Hosni Mubarak on Saturday talked with visiting Tarje-Roed Larsen, UN secretary general's personal envoy to the Middle East, on regional issues, the official MENA news agency reported.

The meeting is the first by Mubarak with an international official following his landslide victory in the country's first multi-candidate presidential elections held on Wednesday.

Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Larsen said their talks came as part of wide-range consultations on the peace process in the region in his capacity as UN envoy.

The meeting took place in a cordial atmosphere and was "fruitful", he added.

During the meeting, Larsen conveyed to Mubarak UN Secretary General Kofi Annan's congratulations for his win in the presidential elections.

Larsen said he will report to Annan on his meeting with Mubarak and return again to Egypt for more consultations.
