First national inter-school blogging competition ends in SingaporeSingapore's first national inter- school blogging competition ended with Victoria Junior College and Nanyang Girls' High School winning the champions in their respective categories, according to a statement by the organizers on Friday. Jointly organized by the Education Ministry and Singapore Telecommunications (SingTel), the country's biggest player in the telecoms market, the championship attracted more than 50 schools nationwide. Five junior colleges and 20 secondary schools entered the final round, where their blogs were evaluated in terms of the depth and clarity of thought as well as the creativity of presentation by a panel. Victoria Junior College and Yishun Town Secondary School also won the "Most Popular Blog" awards. Some 18,000 unique votes were cast by online readers for all the school blogs since the competition began on June 1. Thomas Yeo, SingTel's Vice President for Consumer Marketing was quoted as saying that the competition, the world's first of its kind, has achieved both the excitement and educational objective. Blog, short for weblog, is a personal website where a blogger can create his online journal by using words, pictures, audio and video clips as well as internet links.
