Gov't change in Ukraine not to affect ties with EU: president
font size

Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko said Saturday that the sacking of Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko's government will not affect Ukraine's strategy for integration with the European Union (EU).

In a telephone conversation with US President George W. Bush, Yushchenko said the latest developments in Ukraine would help establish a more efficient mechanism for the government operation, and Ukraine's strategic foreign policies would not be changed as aresult.

Yushchenko said Ukraine would remain committed to integration with the EU and continue its efforts to develop a strategic partnership with the Unites States.

Yushchenko also asked the United States to help Ukraine to acquire the status of a market economy and join the World Trade Organization at an early date.

On Thursday, Yushchenko sacked the government for alleged corruption and loss of team spirit.
