Chinese vice president attends HK Disneyland's opening

Chinese Vice President Zeng Qinghong attended the opening ceremony of Hong Kong Disneyland Monday morning, congratulating on the successful cooperation between the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) government and Walt Disney Co.

Zeng, accompanied by Donald Tsang, chief executive of the HKSAR, was welcomed by warm applause upon his arrival at the spot of opening ceremony. Zeng smiled and waved hands to the audience.

Zeng said Hong Kong Disneyland has become a new tour spot for local citizens and visitors to Hong Kong, which will help boost Hong Kong's economy.

The jubilant Disneyland will become Hong Konger's eternal carnival, Zeng said.

To build Disneyland in Hong Kong has well proved that international investors have a more optimistic outlook about Hong Kong, Zeng said. As the center of international finance, trade and shipping, Hong Kong enjoys perfect infrastructure, market mechanism and legislative system, and has a large number of talents in various fields. Zeng sincerely hoped that more foreigners would come to invest in Hong Kong.

He noted that harmony contributes to stability and prosperity.

He hoped that all the Hong Kong compatriots would cherish and protect the development environment and join hands in building a prosperous, harmonious Hong Kong with unremitted efforts.

He expressed his belief that under the guidance of the principles of "one country, two systems" and "Hong Kong people governing Hong Kong" and a high degree of autonomy, with the motherland as its backing and Hong Konger's concerted efforts,

Hong Kong is for sure to maintain its long-term prosperity and stability. Hong Kong will enjoy a better tomorrow, he said.

After the opening ceremony, Zeng left for Shenzhen accompanied by Tsang. He was seen off by HKSAR Administrative Secretary Rafael Hui, Financial Secretary Tang Ying-yen, Secretary for Justice Elsie Leung, and directors of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the HKSAR, the office of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China in Hong Kong as well as the People's Liberation Army Garrison Troops in Hong Kong.

Officials accompanying Zeng back to Shenzhen include Liao Hui, vice chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) and director of the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the State Council, Gao Siren, director of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government

in the HKSAR, Mao Linkun, deputy director of the General Office of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, and Shao Qiwei, director of the National Tourism Administration.

Arriving at Shenzhen's Huanggang checkpoint, Zeng officially concluded his three-day inspection tour in Hong Kong by saying good-bye to Tsang.

On Monday morning, Zeng had breakfast with Henry Ying Tung Fok and Tung Chee-hwa, both vice chairmen of the CPPCC.

Ahead of the opening ceremony of Hong Kong Disneyland, Zeng visited the Hong Kong Polytechnic University and had cordial talks with some of its teaching staff and students.
