Diego Maradona Tuesday visited the training session of Boca Juniors to express his support to coach Alfio Basile, who in last Sunday's match was insulted by the club fans.
Unexpectedly, Maradona, President of the Soccer Department of the club, arrived at 11 to greet the players and Basile as a tokenof support after his team defeated Argentinos Juniors, in the sixth round of games of the Opening Tournament.
Maradona told the press: "I am troubled since Sunday after the victory versus Argentinos Juniors for I cannot understand that a Boca fan insulted Basile."
That fan exhibited during the match a placard reading "Thanks Alfaro (coach of San Lorenzo who in the previous fixture defeated Boca 3-2) for showing what a good team is."
That made a clear reference to Basile, who in entering Boca managed to obtain outstanding Argentine players like Daniel Bilos, Daniel Diaz, Hugo Ibarra and Federico Insua.
It is not common for Maradona to go to the training sessions, so his presence caused surprise on Tuesday.
Nonetheless, he admitted: "it is evident the team is not at itsbest now; Basile and the players know this as well."
