Hamas militants blew up on Wednesday part of the border between the Gaza Strip and Egypt to enable hundreds of Palestinian infiltrators to return home.
Right after the Israeli army withdrew from the Gaza Strip and the borderline between the strip and Egypt, thousands of Palestinians infiltrated into the Egyptian territories and hundreds of Egyptians infiltrated into the strip.
Colonel Jamal Kayed said earlier that Egyptian and Palestinian security officials on Tuesday agreed to allow people to move till 6:00 p.m. (1500 GMT) on Wednesday.
He said that the aim is to enable Palestinian and Egyptian relatives to see each other as they were not able to do so during Israel's 38-year occupation of the strip.
Witnesses said that 1,200 Palestinian security forces redeployed on the borderline to prevent the Palestinians from infiltrating into Egypt.
They said several cement blocks were placed on the borderline and some Hamas militants blew up part of the barrier to allow the Palestinians to return home.
