The construction of the power transmission and transformation line of China's Three Gorges Project has made China No. 1 nation in terms of direct current power transmission in the world, announced the China's Three Gorges Project Corporation on September 15.

To ensure steady and reliable power transmission generated by the project, the State Grid Corporation has started large-scale construction of the Three Gorges project with four radiation lines in four directions, forming a basic interconnecting setup of national power grid.

So far, an accumulated 6,740-kilometer-long line of the project has been put into operation, including a total length of 1,865-kilometer direct current line with five direct current switching stations, each with the capacity of 1,272 kilowatts. Of the 2,172-kilometer-long line under construction, the direct current transmission line is 1.075-kilometer-long.

In the construction of the power project, many world records have been created, which include, the largest scale of direct current power transmission project, the most advanced direct current works, the largest single transformer capacity, the shortest period for building direct current lines, and the excellent economic indexes of operation in direct current power transmission. With the project's operation, the safety operation and economic and technical indexes of China's power grid have been ranked among the forefront of the world in direct current power transmission.
