Agro-products processing to be above 50% in 5 years in China

During the 11th Five-year Plan period, China will have its processing rate of agro-products above 50 percent with the focus on deep processing, and 40 percent farm households engage in the agricultural industrialization operation. People's Daily got this information from a national work meeting in northeast Changchun city for the agricultural industrialization.

In the following five years, China will strive to improve the competitiveness of its agro-products by encouraging farmers to be organized, agricultural modernization and urbanization. The general target is to nurture a cluster of leading agricultural enterprises.

First progress is expected on corn processing, dairy, meat, fruits and vegetables. Major businesses with each of them scoring annual sales revenue up to 5 billion to 10 billion yuan will hopefully be built.

In addition, agro-products must have higher added value. The processing rate should exceed 50 percent.
