The Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) is strongly against Japan's bid for a permanent seat in the UN Security Council, Choe Su Hon, Deputy Foreign Minister of the DPRK, said on Thursday.

Addressing the general debate of the 60th session of the UN General Assembly, Choe said the Security Council should be reformed on the basis of principle of ensuring full representation of the non-aligned and developing countries which make up the overwhelming majority of member states.

"We should never tolerate the permanent membership of Japan, who refuses to liquidate its past crimes against other countries, distorting its history of aggression and, drives the regional situation into confrontation," he stressed.

Japan has launched earlier this year a joint bid with Brazil, Germany and India, which is the so-called G4, to secure permanent membership in the Security Council.
