Zheng/Yan cruise to semifinals at China Open

Zheng Jie/ Yan Zi, top Chinese women tennis doubles pair, cruised through to the semifinals by outgunning Liga Dekmeijere of Latvia and Martina Muller of Germany 7-5, 6-2 at the China Open of WTA tournament on Thursday in Beijing.

Zheng Jie, who had stopped her singles tourney in an early second round action, falling to Poland's Marta Domachowska 6-3, 6-1. However, Peng Shuai and Sun Tiantian, who stunned 9th ranked Serena Williams, made to the quarterfinals on Wednesday.

In the first set, Zheng/Yan leveled their opponents at 1-1, 2-2 and 5-5, and let no chances go of to wrap up the set 7-5.

While in the second set, Zheng Jie and Yan Zi, whose current doubles world rank are separately 35 and 37, led the way after 2-2 in four straight games en route to a 6-2 win.
