Peng Shuai of China suffered a 7-5, 6-1 quarterfinal loss to Anna-Lena Groenefeld of Germany at the WTA China Open tennis tournament on Friday.

The exit of the world's 33rd ranked player left China's title hope to Olympic doubles champion Sun Tiantian, who stunned ninth ranked Serena Williams of the United States in the second round and will take on Russia's Maria Kirilenko later Friday.

Peng's loss rewrote her win-loss record of 2005 as 22-15 and that of her career 132-56. While for the 30th-ranked Groenefeld, the records stand at 33-21 and 134-79.

The 19-year-old Peng once led the first set 5-4 but gave in the next three games to end the set 7-5. And in a lopsided second set, Peng easily threw in the towel at 6-1.
